History of Americas cotton
Cotton textures found in a give in close Tehuacán, Mexico, have been dated to around 5800 BC.[10] The training of Gossypium hirsutum in Mexico is dated in the vicinity of 3400 and 2300 BC.[11]
In Peru, development of the indigenous cotton species Gossypium barbadense has been dated, from a find in Ancon, to c 4200 BC,[12] and was the foundation of the advancement of waterfront societies, for example, the Norte Chico, Moche, and Nazca. Cotton was developed upriver, made into nets, and exchanged with angling towns along the drift for substantial supplies of fish. The Spanish who came to Mexico and Peru in the mid sixteenth century found the general population developing cotton and wearing garments made of it.
